Intel Official Rajesh Gupta Says : Intel Second General Core Processor Family - Comes to Increase Performance and to Decrease Cost
Intel, a world leader company in computing innovation, on 12 January, 2011 last here in Dhaka has launched its much awaited and game changing Second Generation Intel Core Processor family. The very inauguration of the said chips for laptops and PCs was held here in Bangladesh just a week after the processor family was unveiled at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, taking the wraps off a family of core processor that include dozen of new chips, with more to follow later this year. Through this inauguration Intel has disclosed some exciting and surprising new features and services, and several unique agreement that deliver entirely new visual experience with processor graphics built in. More than 500 desktop and laptop PCs are expected from all major OEMs worldwide throughout the next year. In Bangladesh these systems are available immediately after the launch from local channel partners and are also likely to be available from OEMs like Asus, Acer, HP, Lenovo, Toshiba and Dell amongst others.

Intel’s South Asia Sales and Marketing Group Director Rajesh Gupta being accompanied by Intel’s Bangladesh Country Business Manager Zia Manjur were present there to unveil the said processor family. I, along with our Associate Editor Main Uddin Mahmood and Assistant Editor M A Haque Anu had the opportunity to have an interview with Rajesh Gupta just after the inaugural event. During this interview we put forward some questions before him about Intel when he responded as bellow:

What is about the architecture of the new product Second Generation Intel Core Processor?

Within every two years we come out with new architecture. Moore’s Law is a statement that essentially propagates in every 18 months numbers of transistors in CPU will be double and the cost will remain more or less the same. So we just believe in that philosophy and in every two years we are able to achieve that. The architecture of our new product Second Generation Intel Core Processor has several unique achievements. First of all, as you know very well we are integrating the processors. The graphic unit has gone inside the processor. There are multiple cores; all of them share the same cache. One of the most important architectural enhancements is there in this new processor, what we call the improved new generation Turbo Boost technology 2.0. This feature automatically reallocates processor core and processor graphics resource to accelerate performance boost when and where is needed.

What is the difference among core i3, core i5 and core i7?

Look at it like this, i3 is a value platform, i5 what we call mainstream and i7 is a high end one. Core i3 has a very basic feature set, which is good enough for users, who just have a very basic need of a PC. You just want to do browsing and basic PC MS 0ffice kind of activity .In PC market parlance we say there are users who only consume contents. Consumption of content is- you just receive news, you send news, you just do internet browsing, you go and do surfing etc. You are just consuming, you are not doing any creative job.

Core i5 is for those users who consume contents as well as create contents, while i7 is for extreme gamers and enthusiastic users.

Which one is more powerful- HD Graphics or GPU comparatively?

In having the chat, one of the challenges that we have been observing and the feed that have been coming to us, is to ensure better graphics. Remember I have a lot of friends, who use Youtube, face book, social networking. You know all these things mean an average user require better graphics performance in your value and mainstream PC, that you needed earlier. Because earlier you were not going to use so much visual in your PC, given that it was not that, the requirement could not have met earlier. Earlier you would take an external add-on graphics, it would add to cost. And any add-on device has a very serious affect, because it consumes a lot of power, which is not in the direction at which anybody wants to go. Today we want to conserve as much power and also we want to reduce the cost. So what we wanted to give mainstream or value users better graphics performance in CPU itself, without any add-on graphics. Let the users have a very good visual and graphics performance without increasing energy, without increasing cost. So, integrated graphics essentially will address those three challenges: it increases performance, does not increase energy load, and then reduces the cost. But I am to say, for highest level of performance you will still possibly need an add-on graphics. But for mainstream general purpose user I would recommend for an integrated graphics. For an extreme user, extreme gamer and for extremely high end user we would still recommend an add-on.

What is your market and business development strategy in Bangladesh?

Bangladesh is one of the fastest growing markets. We are ensuring that entire range of our product and technologies reach here in Bangladesh in time. We retain the channel with dealers and local consumers, working with government for the projects.

What are the initiatives of your company regarding green computing?

You know like any other company we believe that environment is becoming a big issue, a big challenge. So, internally we have adopted a strategy that Intel should keep itself at the forefront of using as well as selling environment friendly green technology. So, there host of things, bunch of things we are doing internally. For example, Intel has one of the largest solar power generation factories in the world. In Oregon we have factory of solar power generation, forty thousand people work in this operation. A CPU requires a lot of chemicals in our manufacturing process that pollute environment. So that we are manufacturing processors, so that pollution might happen at a lesser and lesser extent. On the other hand we are developing our products so that power consumption is reduced, and products become environment friendly. In this regard we are working with industries, also with governments. We are helping them so that they can use the environment friendly green technology.

What is the future roadmap of Intel to increase the computing power and to make computers easier to users?

Intel and Nokia have developed a joint understanding to develop that interface for that, so you are doing in that. So mego in keeping in mind to answer the question you are asking, how does it will make computer simple for users? So what we did, when you first install mego on your device, whether it’s a laptop or a net book or whatever it may be, it will start only with one icon. This one icon will be on the desktop. Slowly as you will start using it, it will keep an intelligent eye on how you are using your pattern increasing, then it will automatically bring additional features on to the desktop. So the works itself learns how you are using it and you are also learning how you are to use it. So I think in future you will see a lot of development on user interface.

If you are doing out of India, which is applicable for this part of the country, I think we also need a very seamless local language solution, because we can’t reach market with only English language support. And for this we are working at Bangalore, because we have a development centre there. We have a project there called Projct Darpan, and what we are trying to do there, are very simple to use several local language interfaces. We have already Hindi interface and we have done a couple of. We have already put Bangla on the designed thing. So you can imagine that it’s very simple to use these interfaces. Any user put the PC and get very simple screen with Bangla icons. You just click and get syndicated contents in Bangla language. If you want to get news, for example, you will just have an icon for news in Bangla. You would get separate icon for stocks. You just need to click on the respective icon to get the desired contents. I think those are the very initiatives we are taking to make the computer easier for the users, where language should not be a barrier for the users and a single click will provide information to them.

Intel began its very journey more than 4 decades ago on July18, 1968. In your opinion what is the biggest success Intel has ever achieved in this 4 decades of its life span?

It's a tough question for us. You know inter was founded by Gordin E. moore, who is also a physicist and chemist. He was accompanied by Robert Noyce, also a fellow physicist and co-creator of integrated circuitry. You all are aware of the famous Moor's law given by our co-founder Gordon Moore. Intel's biggest success has been for the last forty years its ability to constantly deliver the premise of Moor's Law, which is our founding father's vision. For forty years I don't know how many times people have question the depth of moon's law.
